The INEOS founder is one of two bidders looking to purchase shares in Manchester United from the Glazer family.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has his sights set on Manchester United – and he’s not backing down any time soon.
The INEOS founder is one of the top contenders to buy the football club, as the Glazers remain in the midst of their ‘strategic review’.
Rumor has it that Ratcliffe has offered to buy around 60% of the team’s ownership, but he’s not the only one vying for the prize. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani is also proposing a full 100% buyout. Both bids are believed to be in the £5 billion ballpark, making it a neck-and-neck race. Updates on the takeover have been few and far between, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.
Ratcliffe, though, isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. In fact, he’s made it clear that failure is not an option.
“You can’t really contemplate acquiring a brand like Manchester United and failing because the failure is just far too public and excruciating in a deal like that,” he said in an interview on INEOS.TV.
“The Manchester United bid would have been unthinkable two or three years ago,” Ratcliffe added.
“If we hadn’t had some of the experiences – some quite difficult experiences with Lausanne and Nice.”
According to various reports, Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe are yet to hear an answer from the Glazers.
Regardless, Manchester United will be in back in action on Saturday at home to Brighton in the Premier League.
