The United star is edging closer toward leaving Old Trafford after the Red Devils failed to secure a top-four finish.

Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly urged Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Manchester United ahead of the next season.

A humiliating 4-0 defeat against Brighton ended Man United’s hopes of claiming a top-four finish. This means Ronaldo will miss out on the Champions League for the first time in 20 years if he doesn’t leave Old Trafford this summer.

Despite United’s struggles, Ronaldo has enjoyed top form this season, scoring 24 goals in his 34 appearances for the Red Devils.

The uncertainty around Ronaldo’s future has attracted interest from Real Madrid, who are reportedly keen to bring back their all-time top-scorer.

However, a new report claims CR7 has received advice to stay at Old Trafford from his old manager.

According to Sunday Mirror, Ronaldo has met Ferguson several times this season. The ex-Man United boss has reportedly advised the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to avoid a summer transfer.

Ronaldo’s current deal at Old Trafford expires in June 2023. However, the arrival of Eric ten Hag has increased the uncertainty around the Portugal international’s future.

It is not clear whether Ten Hag wants Ronaldo as a part of his project at Man United. The Dutchman might limit CR7’s game time as he is determined to rebuild United’s squad by adding new players this summer.
