It happened at a press conference ahead of Atletico Madrid’s upcoming La Liga match this weekend, does Simeone want Messi?

We didn’t think we would ever be in the position to ask if Leo Messi would ever play for Atletico Madrid before retiring. However, Diego Simeone made Luis Suarez’s transfer possible and it suddenly doesn’t seem that impossible. As we all know, Leo’s best friend is the Uruguay striker and he would love playing next to him again.

They shared everything together since the end of 2014. Suarez’s absence left a giant hole in Messi’s life that might even push him away from Barcelona. In fact, the Argentine’s future is still very much in the air because his contract is about to expire in June. Starting in January, Messi will be able to negotiate with any club in the world and he will be up for grabs.

Many think he will only go to the highest bidder. Others believe he will remain at FC Barcelona if Ronald Koeman can get the team back to a winning streak. But Leo is a very passionate footballer, he always follows his heart.

Atletico is not a crazy idea after all.

If we sit down to analyze the real chances Messi has to play for Atletico, we might find an open window that can give us an answer. For starters, we already mentioned the fact that Luis Suarez is still there. We also have the idea that Leo has always wanted to work under ‘Cholo’ Simeone and this might be his only chance before hanging up his boots.

But we also have a theory that Leo could make it to Atletico if the Colchoneros give up Joao Felix to FC Barcelona. Although he never talks about other players but his own, ‘Cholo’ did mention Messi with a small thought.

Talking to Mundo Deportivo, ‘Cholo’ said: “What you are saying is beautiful but we all think about the everyday grind, the next match. We have to think about the players we do have. I see a motivated squad, filled with hopes, willing to go out and deliver. We have people who want to keep growing here. What matters is what happens on the pitch.”
