Due to the recent praise of the offensive nature within Atletico Madrid’s style, Diego Simeone told the press who is the main responsible for it.

Atletico Madrid has been overly offensive in recent months this season, Diego Simeone knows exactly who to blame for that. Perhaps some will say that Joao Felix or Marcos Llorente are making the squad play in this new way. However, ‘Cholo’ Simeone is convinced that this responsibility goes directly to Luis Suarez.

The Uruguay international was part of FC Barcelona’s historic treble-winning squad. It was only natural he came to Atletico Madrid with a different type of mentality. For Diego Simeone, signing Suarez didn’t only mean he was getting the striker’s goal-scoring capabilities.

Luis can also bring many of the tropes he learned during his time playing next to Leo Messi and company. These new ideas are an everyday experience that the rest of the Atletico players are having contact with through Suarez.

Simeone gives Suarez all the credit.

Whether the rest of the world agrees with it or not, Diego Simeone is convinced Luis Suarez is the one who changed this outlook on how to play the game. He was asked about this new philosophy ahead of their upcoming match against Lokomotiv.

“I believe all this was generated due to Suarez’s presence,” Simeone told AS. “There’s a need to provide him with assists. Whereas Costa and Morata have different characteristics of space and long game. We were looking for different situations within the game.

“Luis needs more people near him, he needs to live where he can hurt you the most and the team works within the most complicated aspect of the game: scoring goals.

“Suarez’s characteristics push us to have that will to improve his situation within the game. We played a certain way with Falcao, another way with Costa, and we have to get hooked to a certain situation with Suarez. It’s a new experience we are all going through with him.”
