After the IFFHS decided to name Diego Simeone as the best manager of the last decade, ‘Cholo’ reacted to the recognition on social media.

You are reading this well, the IFFHS decided to name Diego Simeone as the best manager of the last decade between 2011 and 2020. Not Jurgen Klopp for his work at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool. Not Pep Guardiola for his work in La Liga, the Bundesliga, and the Premier League. They didn’t name Zinedine Zidane as the best manager either for the three Champions League titles he won at Real Madrid.

Diego Simeone is the man they consider as the top manager from the last decade. Granted, ‘Cholo’ completely transformed Atletico Madrid into one of the most important football clubs in the world. But winning Europa League titles, a single La Liga title, and losing two Champions League finals tell a different story. Regardless of the backlash for this controversial decision, ‘Cholo’ still decided to thank the IFFHS for this recognition.

Simeone’s message on social media.

Despite the many different opinions after the IFFHS’ decision to name Simeone, he decided to thank them in public. Although he has done some outstanding work over the last ten years, there are definitely managers who have accomplished a lot more than he has. However, Simeone told the world that this award should be a recognition to his whole technical staff.

This is what Diego Simeone wrote on his official social media accounts: “Thankful to the IFFHS for the recognition to our work. I would like to share it with my technical staff and everybody who’s been a part of it throughout the years. Thank you to all the players who allowed us to keep growing. We are still with the same energy we had on the very first day.”
