After getting a complicated win at Elche, Diego Simeone is very excited by Atletico Madrid’s final stretch in the Spanish La Liga.

Atletico Madrid seems to be recovering that fighting spirit they lost recently under ‘Cholo’ Simeone. They needed to win today against Elche if they wanted to keep depending on themselves to win the title. For Diego Simeone, this usual fighting spirit is exactly what made them win the trophy back in 2014. If they want to do the same this season, they need to recover some of that  uring the final stretch of the season.

They won at Elche today with an early Marcos Llorente goal in a complicated evening for Luis Suarez. The Uruguay international missed some very important chances but he always remained willing to go the extra mile in order to create them. For ‘Cholo’ Simeone, getting this spirit back was absolutely essential in order to keep their hopes alive. Today, after a hard-fought battle. Atletico Madrid got a much-deserved victory right before the major showdown next week.

This is what ‘Cholo’ wants from his players.

Getting these three points right before traveling to Barcelona was crucial for them to reach this stage of the season with confidence. Simeone was thrilled to finally get some of that back today, he feels more confident than ever. Whoever wins next weekend will probably win the Spanish La Liga when the season is over. This is what Simeone said after the match via Diario AS: “We are entering a final stage and every win is a massive step towards our goal.

“I want to see the squad I envisioned and dreamed of when I first came to Atletico in every match we have left. The first half was one of the best we’ve played in the last couple of matches and the advantage should’ve been greater. We knew that the rival was going to make it difficult for us, especially with everything on the line. They had one chance above the bar and that handball that wasn’t really the right call.”
