Los Rojiblancos got their hands on the league crown last time out, and their manager wants them to focus on all fronts this time.

Diego Simeone has called on Atletico Madrid to “improve on last season’s numbers.”

The 2020-21 La Liga title race went down to the wire, with Atletico Madrid beating FC Barcelona and Real Madrid to the trophy on the final day of the campaign.

Los Rojiblancos have only gone on to strengthen their squad ever since, having brought back Antoine Griezmann from FC Barcelona over the summer.

And after getting crowned champions of Spain, Atleti would now want to aim for success in the other domestic competitions and, perhaps, in Europe.

“We expect to improve on what we did last season,” Simeone said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Atletico’s La Liga meeting with Espanyol on Sunday, as ESPN reports.

“We didn’t have a good Copa del Rey. We competed well in the Champions League but would like to have done much better. This year we have the Spanish Super Cup in January.

“They’re four important competitions including the league, and we want to improve on last season’s numbers as we always look to do.”
