The Uruguayan marksman remains one of the most lethal finishers but he has been rather unfortunate while playing away from home in Europe.

Diego Simeone is hoping that Luis Suarez can end his six-year goalless streak in away European fixtures in Atletico Madrid’s upcoming match against Chelsea.

Suarez was still in his early Barcelona career when he last found the back of the net in an away Champions League fixture.

The 34-year-old opened the scoring in Barcelona’s 1-1 draw against AS Roma in a Champions League group stage match back in 2015.

“Probably tomorrow is the right day for Luis Suarez to end the streak that you are talking about,” said Simeone in his pre-match press conference, via Football London.

“Why not? Tomorrow could be a beautiful day.”

Atletico were beaten by Chelsea in the first leg at home back in February. The tie is still far from over though, as only one goal separates the two sides.

Simeone added: “The goal is to improve our situation from the first leg. We don’t know how they will approach it, but I know what we want from the match, which is to win it.

“Tomorrow, we just have one result, to win. We have to take the match where we want so we can win with a goal.”
