The Sky Blues have some bitter memories from their European adventures of the recent past but seem driven to make this one count.
Manchester City have been a force to reckon with in the Premier League since the previous decade, but the same cannot be said about them in the Champions League.
Each of their nine campaigns in Europe’s premier club competition has resulted in failure, with reaching the semi-finals in 2015/16 their best ever result in their history.
City have failed to progress past the quarter-finals stage in the previous three editions of the competition despite being favorites.
A shock 3-1 defeat to Olympique Lyon saw them exit Europe last season in a disappointing fashion after they had put the mighty Real Madrid to the sword in the Last-16.
Man City have looked much better this season as they are through to the knockout stages after remaining unbeaten in Group C, and Bernardo Silva feels his side are ready to turn their fortunes around.
“It was a good game,” Silva told BT Sports, via Goal, after the Sky Blues’ 3-0 victory over Marseille on Wednesday night.
“We knew we have already got first spot in the group and we are already qualified but it’s always very good to finish the group stage with a good win, 3-0 at home. On to the next one.
“It’s a good start for us – we know it’s not enough but it’s a very good start. We’re into the last 16 and our goal is to do better than we did in the last three seasons and that’s what we will try to do.”
