Jose Mourinho has ‘brainwashed’ Tottenham Hotspur players to believe they can lift the Premier League title, according to Tim Sherwood.

A terrific start to the season has seen Tottenham emerge as one of the contenders for the Premier League crown.

Although Jose Mourinho refuses to talk about his team’s chances in a packed title race, there’s a genuine widespread feeling Spurs can reach that feat this term.

The ‘Special One’ has improved almost every aspect of Tottenham’s game, as evident by the fact they now sit top of the table with the reigning champions Liverpool.

By contrast, when Mourinho took charge of the team last season, Spurs were sitting 20 points adrift of the Merseyside outfit.

Only last weekend, they outperformed Manchester City to secure a fourth consecutive Premier League victory and reach the top of the table.

Tim Sherwood, who was briefly at the helm in 2013/14, has followed everything Mourinho’s Tottenham have done with great attention.

The 51-year-old is excited with what the London giants have had to offer so far this season, naming them among the favorites to win the league title.

“He [Mourinho] has found a way with the group of players he has,” Sherwood told talkSPORT Breakfast.

“He’s bought very well, [Sergio] Reguilon has been a good signing at left-back, but [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg for me has been the best signing. He fits into the style and just protects the two centre-halves.

“Mourinho has brainwashed his players to believe they have to work to achieve something – they need to win trophies, this group of players.

“When you play as solid as they do, he’s almost brainwashed them into believing.

“And why wouldn’t you believe in him? Mourinho has won 20 major trophies in his career and you’re winning football matches, so then you start believing that this guy is the real deal, he knows what he’s talking about, and why can’t we win the league?

“When we’ve got players like Son and Kane, who are world-class and could probably play in any team in the world, you’ve always got a chance.

“They haven’t played fantastically well this season, but who cares?”
