Manchester United’s massive reputation does not allow the team to settle for anything less than silverware, suggests Luke Shaw.
Manchester United showed decent progress in 2019/20 in comparison to the last few years but they lack any material proof to show for it.
The Red Devils made deep runs in the Europa League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup in 2019/20, only to exit each of the competitions without any success.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men had lingering doubts over their place in the Champions League in the following season throughout the last season which was cleared on the final Premier League matchday after they beat Leicester City 2-0.
It was under Jose Mourinho that the team last enjoyed success, winning the Europa League and League Cup, and Luke Shaw insists his side will aim to end their three-year trophy drought in the upcoming season.
“I feel really good. I worked really hard over the short time everyone had off and I’m ready to go,” Shaw told MUTV.
“We’re ready for the season. We need to be strong and focused on winning trophies, not getting into the top four. A club like us should be winning trophies.”
Shaw also lamented at Man United’s defeat to Aston Villa in the preseason friendly ahead of their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
“Obviously it’s a friendly but I’m disappointed we didn’t win,” he added. “And we lost. I’m really disappointed, to be honest.”
