A heartbreaking defeat at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Monday saw the hosts fall six points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid.

Jesus Navas chooses to remain optimistic after Sevilla’s defeat to Athletic Bilbao, saying his side will “keep on trying” in the La Liga title race.

It appeared Sevilla were about to drop two crucial points with both sides unable to open the scoring until very late in the game, but Inaki Williams netted a 90th-minute winner to ensure Athletic Bilbao snatch all three points.

The 1-0 loss put an end to the Red and Whites’ five-match winning run in the league and, more importantly, saw them lose ground in the title race.

Julen Lopetegui’s men damaged their chances of overhauling the other three title contenders as they are now four points behind second-placed Real Madrid and third-placed Barcelona and six behind leaders Atletico Madrid with four matches left to play.

“It’s a very tough blow,” Navas told post-match, via ESPN. “We tried everything, we had a lot of chances and then they had one opportunity and scored.

“But we’re going to keep on trying, we’re going to fight in every game and we’re going to Madrid next week to win.”
