The former Spain and Real Madrid manager’s impressive progress has been awarded through a new long-term deal.

Sevilla have announced a two-year contract extension for head coach Julen Lopetegui until June 2024.

The 54-year-old has been in charge of the Andalusian club since July 2019. He has won an impressive 46 times in 79 matches in charge, drawing on 19 occasions and losing just 14 games overall.

Lopetegui’s debut campaign ended in a record sixth Europa League title and a top-four La Liga finish for Sevilla.

Despite a slow start to the current season, Sevilla are on a nine-match unbeaten run in all competitions. The Nervionenses are just two points outside the top-four in La Liga with two games in hand. They’ve also progressed to the Champions League knockout stages this term, with a last-16 tie against Borussia Dortmund awaiting next month.

“Sevilla FC and Julen Lopetegui have reached an agreement to extend the Basque manager’s contract by two seasons, which ties him to the club until 30th June 2024,” read a club statement on the manager’s new deal.

As things currently stand, Lopetegui has the best win percentage record of any Sevilla manager in the club’s history at 57.9%.

The one-time Spanish champions return to action on Tuesday for a trip to La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.
