The Spaniard was dismissed within seven months of his appointment after he had led the team to their first trophyless season in eight years.
Quique Setien is open to returning to FC Barcelona and has no regrets from his ‘extraordinary’ time in charge of the club.
Setien was handed the team’s reins in January with Catalan giants seeking to steady their ship after the disappointing Supercopa de Espana exit at the semi-finals stage.
Under the former Real Betis head coach, however, Barca only went on a downwards trajectory.
No trophy arrived at the Camp Nou in 2019-20 with the season also presenting the haunting memory of an 8-2 thrashing at Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
To make matters worse, Setien even sued the club for a breach of contract, but he has been able to come to terms following his controversial summer exit.
“I have already come through the mourning I had to endure for what happened at Barcelona,” the 62-year-old said, via Marca. “But it’s something that happens as part of this job.
“If you manage to live a little isolated from from the whole environment, which is what I have done, you can live in a way that’s more or less calm. I’ve changed my phone but they still stop you on the street and ask for interviews, but I have to try to remain the same.
“The experience was extraordinary. It’s true that we didn’t enjoy what we would have liked to enjoy, or do what we wanted at the beginning, but you find that things get complicated.
“Of course I would return to Barcelona and I don’t regret having gone there. Not at all.”
