Ahead of Juventus’ final game of the season, Cristiano Ronaldo is on the brink of a first Capocannoniere award.

After finishing fourth in 2018/19 and runner-up last season, Cristiano Ronaldo is edging closer to becoming the Italian goal king in his third campaign.

The 36-year-old has been sensational in an otherwise nightmare season for Juventus. He has contributed towards 42% of the club’s 73 goals, despite missing four games and starting from the bench twice.

He currently a six-goal lead over Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku in the goal charts. Atalanta star Luis Muriel completes the top-three albeit with Dusan Vlahovic (Fiorentina), Simy (Crotone), and Ciro Immobile (Lazio) keeping him close for company.

Inter Milan crowned league champions

Juventus’ nine-year dominance in Serie A, however, has officially ended.

Inter Milan claimed the Italian league title for the first time since 2010 earlier this month. The Nerazzurri have a 10-point lead over second-place Atalanta ahead of their final game of the season.

But while their title defense is over, Ronaldo and Juventus are still in danger of finishing outside the top four. They must beat Bologna in Sunday’s season finale and hope at least one of the two teams directly above them in the standings – AC Milan and Napoli – fail to win.
