Rico has gotten closer to full recovery in recent days.
Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico has been moved out of intensive care, according to a recent update from his wife.
Rico had been receiving treatment at the Virgen del Rocio hospital in Seville since May 28, following an unfortunate accident involving a horse during a local festival.
However, the latest report from the hospital confirms that the Spanish goalkeeper has been discharged from the ICU and transferred to a regular ward.
In a statement issued to the media, the hospital stated (via BBC), “Sergio Rico has been released from the Intensive Care Unit, where he was closely monitored by our dedicated team of specialists for five weeks. He will now receive further medical and nursing care from another team of experts within the hospital.”
Last week, hospital sources revealed that Rico had emerged from his coma and had started communicating again, offering a glimmer of hope for his family, friends, and fans.
Sergio Rico’s wife, Silvia, also confirmed the news on Wednesday, telling reporters: “We are very happy, he was moved out [of the ICU] to another ward and he’s doing well. We can now be with him 24 hours. Sergio is in good spirits.
“He has been with me 100 per cent, that is the greatest thing and we are very happy. Everyone has been a lifesaver for me: my mother, my friends, my sister.”
Rico enjoyed success with his hometown club Sevilla, winning the Europa League on two occasions. He then joined PSG on a permanent basis in 2020 after a successful loan spell.
