The former Real Madrid captain will be without a club this week once his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires.
Sergio Ramos is reportedly ‘mad’ about the idea of rejoining his boyhood club, Sevilla, in LaLiga next season according to Spanish radio network Cadena SER.
Ramos will be without a team on Saturday as his contract with French champions PSG would have expired. The 37-year-old defender is eager to return to Spain. Allegedly, the idea of reuniting with Sevilla, whom he left in 2005 for Real Madrid, appeals to him.
“Many people close to me have told me the same thing, he is crazy about playing for Sevilla,” journalist Manolo Aguila said on the radio show.
“I don’t think he has any interest in the news coming out, although he wouldn’t care if he sees it either.”
Ramos, who is originally from Seville, is a product of the club’s youth academy. The Spaniard debuted for the first team in February 2004. He scored three goals in 49 appearances before joining Real Madrid for €27 million in August 2005.
Nearly two decades later, a return to Andalusia may be on the cards. However, with five central defenders in the squad, it remains to be seen if Sevilla really will re-sign Ramos. The defender’s recent injury problems and age may also be a problem. The club is trying to rebuild under manager Jose Luis Mendilibar, who led them to Europa League success in his debut campaign.
