The Spanish midfielder is spending the final months of his glorious career at Camp Nou.

Sergio Busquets has reportedly decided to leave Barcelona after the expiration of his current contract.

Following his stellar performances at the La Masia academy, Busquets joined Barca’s senior side in 2008.

He went on to himself as an irreplaceable figure in midfield, claiming a haul of domestic and international trophies alongside his ‘golden generation’ teammates.

Fifteen years after his debut, Busquets is still a starter for Barcelona. However, it seems his journey at the club is about to end.

According to SPORT, Busquets is aware of the intense competition in Barca’s midfield. The Spanish international reportedly wants to take on a new challenge after the current season.

The Spanish outlet claims Busquets will most likely continue his career in Major League Soccer. Inter Miami have shown interest in signing the midfielder as a free agent next summer.

Busquets has remained a reliable option at the heart of Xavi Hernandez’s midfield unit at Barca. His exit will most likely see the Barcelona boss using the likes of Franck Kessie and Frenkie de Jong as his replacement in the lineup.

Busquets also faces serious competition from Manchester City’s Rodri for a place in Spain’s World Cup squad. His performances during the Qatar tournament could also convince potential suitors to sign him for a cheap fee during the winter transfer window.
