The USMNT star sees no future at Barcelona if he has to play under Xavi.

Sergino Dest has discussed his potential return to Barcelona at the end of the season.

Barcelona completed a €26million move for Dest in 2020, adding one of Europe’s most promising right-backs to their ranks. However, the American defender struggled to live up to expectations at Camp Nou, falling out of favour under Xavi.

After an unsuccessful loan spell in Serie A last season, Dest moved to PSV on another season-long loan deal in the summer. The USMNT star’s consistent performances this season have intensified rumours about his possible return to Barcelona.

However, Dest believes it’s still too early to speculate about his future.

“Xavi is still there. So not for the moment; it will be too difficult,” Dest told Voetbal International when asked about his future at Barcelona.

He added: “I think that Barcelona, PSV, and I have something to say about this. It can be discussed at the end of the season. Now it is too early.”

Dest has made 12 appearances for PSV as they lead the Eredivisie table with a comfortable margin. The 23-year-old is under contract at Barcelona until 2025, with the Catalans reportedly being open to selling him in the summer.
