Dest returns to the Dutch top flight as he leaves Barcelona on another loan deal.

Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest is on the verge of completing a loan move to PSV Eindhoven.

Following an unsuccessful loan spell at AC Milan, Dest returned to Barcelona earlier this summer. But he will seemingly have no place in Xavi Hernandez’s squad for the new campaign.

According to Fabrizio Romano, PSV have reached an agreement to sign Dest on a one-year loan deal. Barcelona will reportedly pay half of Dest’s salary, while PSV have a buy option of €10m.

The USMNT defender hopes to rekindle his lost spark in Eredivisie, where he first rose in prominence playing for Ajax.

Back in 2020, Barcelona won a transfer race against Bayern Munich to sign Dest for €26.2m. But the right-back failed to establish himself as a starter at Camp Nou.

Dest has made a total of 72 appearances for the Catalans across all competitions. His lack of playing time under Xavi convinced him to join AC Milan on a loan deal last season. But the Italian side avoided making his move permanent after he played in only 14 matches.

Barcelona are pushing to sign Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo for the right-back position. However, they are yet to reach a breakthrough in their negotiations with the Premier League giants.
