After a technical error forced UEFA to redo the draw, the last-16 Champions League fixtures of the 2021/22 season have been decided.

Clubs discovered their fates late on Monday afternoon at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, for the last-16 stage in the Champions League after a second draw was held.

Due to a technical infringement, UEFA decided to stage another draw after a mishap involving Manchester United. The decision ended a potential blockbuster clash between the Red Devils and Paris Saint-Germain.

Unfortunately for fans, Cristiano Ronaldo won’t meet Lionel Messi this time around. The Portuguese ace will instead face Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, starting at Wanda Metropolitano in February.

Messi and PSG, meanwhile, will also head to Spain to take on Ronaldo’s former club, Real Madrid, in the round of 16.

Elsewhere, Chelsea were the big winners as they kept their original tie with Lille. Manchester City also did well, as they have gone from facing Villarreal to now Sporting CP, but Liverpool have to take on Inter Milan after previously getting Salzburg.

Take Two: Round of 16 tie results

UEFA divided clubs into two separate pots for the draw – one for seeded group winners and the other for unseeded runners-up.

The seeded teams (group winners) play the second-leg of their last-16 ties at home, while the unseeded clubs (runners-ups) host the first-leg.
