The Ivory Coast international is on the brink of firing Dortmund to their first Bundesliga title since 2012 after being diagnosed with testicular cancer last year.
Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastien Haller is on cloud nine after helping the club go top of the Bundesliga standings ahead of this Saturday’s season finale.
On Sunday, Haller scored twice to steer Dortmund to a 3-0 victory over 10-man Augsburg. The result saw BVB overtake Bayern Munich into first place in the Bundesliga, opening up a two-point lead.
Now Haller, who returned to action in January following surgery and chemotherapy last year, has championship glory in his sights.
“If someone told me six months ago that I would be in this situation today I would not have believed them,” the 28-year-old said.
“We have invested a lot and now we have a chance to achieve something big. There is no magic. It is about investing. Then it comes.”
Haller has managed an impressive nine goals and five assists in 18 league games since returning to action for Dortmund this year.
A home win over Mainz this Saturday will seal the club’s first title since the 2011/12 campaign under Jurgen Klopp.
