Scotland had a visit from Denmark in this final World Cup qualifying fixture at Hampden Park. Here are all the player ratings.
Scotland and Denmark met in their final game of the World Cup qualification with the Danes leading Group F. Having already sealed their place for the tournament in October, they had to play only for their pride.
As for the home side, a playoff spot was guaranteed following their 2-0 win over Moldova on Friday last week. All they had to do is end Denmark’s winning streak and head positively towards the playoffs happening in March.
The local lads performed as they had planned and took the lead in the first half. In the 35th minute, Souttar scored for the Tartan Army in his first appearance after three years. McGinn swirled a deep corner kick which was nodded back into the six-yard box by Cooper and Souttar dug it past Schmeichel.
Late in the second half, the hosts grabbed the second of the night with the help of Che Adams. A perfect through-ball from his Southampton teammate found him alone with the Danish goalkeeper. The 25-year-old striker made no mistake as he curled it past the helpless Schmeichel to extend their lead.
Regardless of a win this evening, Denmark will have nothing to worry about having already grabbed the ticket for the tournament next year. Scotland will look forward to the playoffs which will take place in March 2022.
