The Red Devils legend believes one player was fortunate to not leave the pitch during the Premier League game against Aston Villa.

Rasmus Hojlund was lucky to have stayed on the pitch against Aston Villa, according to Paul Scholes.

On Wednesday, Hojlund broke his goal duck in the Premier League. The Dane scored an 82nd-minute winning goal in Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Aston Villa. His maiden league goal came in his 15th game. The strike completed a memorable night at Old Trafford, where United overcame a two-goal deficit to win.

His big moment, however, may not have happened. Erik ten Tag allegedly planned to substitute him before his match-winning goal. But the manager had to change his plans after Marcus Rashford suffered a knock.

“He does get a little bit of luck with the goal,” former Red Devils midfielder Scholes said on Premier League Productions.

“He’s lucky he’s on the pitch. But as Michael [Owen] said, I think it’s always best when you have not been scoring goals, to not have time about it and act on instinct.

“He has no time whatsoever [with the goal]. It happens in a flash of a second. The only thing he is thinking about is the far corner, it’s the only place he can score.

“Look, I’m so happy for the lad. It’s been a tough start to his Premier League career. Hopefully, he can get up and running and score the goals he deserves to score.”

Hojlund joined United in the summer from Italian team Atalanta for a reported €74 million fee.

The 20-year-old has had a mixed start to his Red Devils career. He has been prolific in Europe, with five goals scored in six Champions League matches, but has struggled to score domestically. He has one goal in 15 Premier League games and failed to find the back of the net in two EFL Cup appearances.

Yet, with his Premier League goal account now open, Hojlund will hope to begin a scoring run, starting with Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.
