Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has already given his verdict on the future number 9 ahead of Marcus Rashford.

Paul Scholes has urged that Manchester United inherits the best finisher ahead of Marcus Rashford and should be given a chance to prove himself. Yes, if you haven’t guessed already, we are talking about young starlet Mason Greenwood. The 19-year-old has been struggling to put up to his standards this season with just four goals in 30 games.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer presented Greenwood with the opportunity to start in a central role upfront on Thursday night. The Red Devils smashed Real Sociedad 4-0 with goals coming from Bruno Fernandes, Rashford, and Daniel James. Greenwood has managed to net 21 goals in 83 appearances for the first-team since his debut back in 2019. And even though he desires to play the striker role, Edinson Cavani has been a tough competition for him lately.

The legend has made his decision.

Former United legend Scholes believes that Greenwood will be the perfect fit for the number 9 role ahead of Rashford. “It’s between Rashford and Greenwood who plays in that centre forward role,” Scholes said. “I think the club and everybody thinks Greenwood is the best finisher at the club so, therefore, he would be better as the No9.”

“The only problem is when Rashford’s played on the right he hasn’t really found his best form so they could switch round quite a bit. Give Greenwood chances he will score. He is destined to be a superstar. He’s got to keep his feet on the ground, keep working hard and there’s nothing to stop him.”
