Ahead of the World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina, Lionel Scaloni was able to offer some positive news about his captain.

Lionel Messi is unscathed following an injury scare last week and will be in contention to face Brazil, says Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni.

In a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Venezuela last Thursday, Messi was on the wrong end of a horror tackle from Adrian Martinez. It sparked fears of an injury setback for the Argentina captain.

But Scaloni has assured fans that Messi is fine and hopes to confirm his full fitness before Argentina face Brazil in Sao Paulo.

“Leo is fine,” said the Argentina manager in a pre-match press conference on Saturday. “It was a scare, but luckily he is fine. We will confirm his condition 100 percent this afternoon, when we do fieldwork.

“[But] whoever plays, Brazil is always an important rival. They’re coming off an incredible positive streak. We’ll face this game with the utmost commitment that it demands of us.

“I have an idea of how the team will line up, but we still haven’t been able to do a training session with those who played against Venezuela. We will probably make some changes.”
