Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has issued an update on his headline performer Lionel Messi’s current situation at Barcelona.

Messi’s unrest at Barcelona was making headlines throughout the summer, with the six-time Ballon d’Or winner pushing for a break-up.

Frustrated with a lack of planning and recent failures at the European scene, the 33-year-old was keen on severing ties with the Catalans.

But, Josep Maria Bartomeu’s relentless efforts to keep hold of the club’s best-ever player have paid off eventually.

Bartomeu was adamant he will not let go of the team’s captain unless his exorbitant €700million release clause is met. Such a figure has put off possible suitors, enabling Barcelona to enjoy the privilege of having their superstar on board for another season.

Messi has stayed put at Camp Nou but has started showing glimpses of frustration in the early stage of the season.

With the tormenting bust-up between the parties seemingly put to bed for the time being, Scaloni is thrilled to see the left-footed wizard focusing his attention to on-pitch performance again.

“I spoke to Leo when everything was resolved and I saw him calm,” he said, as relayed by the Daily Mail.

“Since his arrival, we’ve been able to have a long chat. He is happy to be here. He’s now well in his club.

“All we wanted from a distance was for everything to be resolved and for him to play and to be fit.

“For us, it’s positive that he stayed because he was able to play immediately, he knows the club, but in terms of decisions, we don’t get involved in that, we don’t step in the player’s territory.”

Messi will captain the Argentina side in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Bolivia.
