Lionel Scaloni decided to finally call-up Lionel Messi for Argentina’s upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in South America’s Conmebol.
The last image we saw of Lionel Messi with Argentina was a bad look for the star, he got sent-off against Chile during the Copa America semifinals. Since then, Leo decided to take a break in order to let Lionel Scaloni put together a competitive team.
The ultimate goal was to get the best players for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers that are set to begin in October. But this didn’t mean Leo had no intention of coming back to play for his country. In fact, the captain still has fire in his belly and he won’t give up until he wins some silverware.
Argentina ha the first two World Cup Qualifiers on October 8 and 13. They play against Ecuador and Bolivia, respectively. With these two games in mind. Scaloni released a preliminary list of the players who are outside of the country and he will eventually cut seven players from the list.
The 30-men list.
Inside this list next to Messi, Scaloni called Emiliano Martinez, Musso, Marchesin, Foyth, Saravia, Pezzella, Balerdi, Otamendi, Nehuen Pérez, Kannemann, Tagliafico, Acuña, Medina, Paredes, Guido Rodriguez, De Paul, Palacios, Lo Celso, Dominguez, Messi, Dybala, Ocampos, Nicolas Gonzalez, Mc Allister, Alejandro Gomez, Correa, Alario, Lautaro Martinez, Giovanni Simeone, and Pavon.
Conmebol’s new rules for the World Cup Qualifiers.
In previous years, Conmebol didn’t have the freedom to demand the best players from any club in the world. FIFA president Gianni Infantino just informed that this unwritten rule no longer applies.
All clubs have the obligation to lend their players to their respective national teams with no exceptions when they receive a call-up. As far as the COVID-19 protocols for the qualifiers are concerned, the full rulebook will be released by next week.
