Arsenal close in on first summer signing Tavares

Nuno Tavares boarded a plane to London on Friday to complete his €8 million transfer from Benfica. The fee could rise with potential add-ons in the future.

If the 21-year-old left-back passes a medical and gets standard clearance, he will be set to become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer transfer window on a reported five-year contract.

Tavares has made 41 appearances for Benfica at senior level and scored one goal. He has also represented Portugal at U-21 level twice. [Football London]

Silva joins Leipzig

RB Leipzig have won the transfer race for Andre Silva.

Despite alleged interest from Manchester United, Silva has opted to stay in the Bundesliga. The striker, who scored 28 goals in 32 games for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, has signed a five-year deal at Leipzig.

Leipzig have reportedly agreed on a €23 million transfer fee with Eintracht, who have eyes on free agent Rafael Santos Borre as a potential Silva replacement. [RB Leipzig]

Chelsea eye Calvert-Lewin as Haaland alternative

Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is reportedly on Thomas Tuchel’s shortlist of summer transfer targets.

The Blues coach wants a new striker and is considering Erling Haaland alternatives as negotiations between Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund for the Norwegian make ‘slow progress’.

The Nigerian midfielder impressed in his season on loan with the Russian club and has now been awarded a two-year contract until 2023. Spartak will reportedly pay Chelsea €5 million as part of the deal.

Saliba set to leave Arsenal on loan again

William Saliba is close to completing a loan move to French giants Marseille.
