The Englishman emulated the NBA legend after sealing his comeback to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

Jadon Sancho has gone back to Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester United until the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

The 23-year-old paid homage to basketball legend Michael Jordan by emulating his well-known “I’m back” press release from 1995 in Dortmund’s transfer announcement.

Sancho will hope to regain the form he displayed during his first spell at Signal Iduna Park between 2017 and 2021.

“When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like ‘coming home,'” Sancho said in a club statement.

“I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge.

“I can’t wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”

Sancho hasn’t played football since August. The winger only made three appearances for United all season, each of them coming from the bench.

This came after a public dispute with Erik ten Hag. The United manager kept Sancho out of the team after he publicly disagreed with his reason for dropping him in a 3-1 loss to Arsenal in September.

Ten Hag said Sancho hadn’t trained well enough, but the player branded this claim as ‘completely false’ in a now-deleted social media post.

Sancho joined United in 2021 from Dortmund for a transfer fee worth around €85 million. He has made 82 appearances for the Premier League club, but has only contributed 12 goals and six assists.
