The former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker is one of six candidates to stand in the upcoming elections for FECAFOOT’s next president.
The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has cleared Samuel Eto’o as a candidate to become its next president.
The 40-year-old announced his plans to stand for the upcoming elections in September. He said back then that his decision was based ‘out of love for Cameroon and passion for our football.’
That said, given Eto’s dual Spanish nationality, which he obtained during his La Liga career, there were doubts whether he would be eligible.

The six presidential candidates
However, FECAFOOT has now confirmed the national team’s record goalscorer as one of the following six candidates in an official document.
- Samuel Eto’o
- Crepin Soter
- Jules Denis Onana
- Justin B. Tagouh
- Seidou Mbombo Njoya
- Zacharie Wandja
The most notable names eligible for the elections, aside from Eto’o, are incumbent president Seidou Mbombo Njoya and former Cameroon international Jules Denis Onana.
FECAFOOT rejected two presidential hopefuls in former midfielder Emmanuel Maboang Kessack, who owes the association €6,773, and Manuel Boyomo due to a lack of endorsement letters.
When are the elections?
The elections for the next president of FECAFOOT are scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 11.
