The Nigeria international scored his first La Liga goal of the season to briefly move Villarreal back on level terms with Barcelona.
Samuel Chukwueze became Villarreal’s top goalscorer against Barcelona at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Saturday.
The Nigerian winger replaced Yeremi Pino as a second-half substitute to cancel out Frenkie de Jong’s opening goal with a 76th-minute equalizer. In doing so, he bagged a club record.

Chukwueze’s strike was his third goal in four league games against Barcelona at Villarreal’s home ground, more than any other player has ever managed for the Spanish club.
The 22-year-old’s intervention set up a tense finale to the game, but a defensive mix-up allowed Memphis Depay to restore Barcelona’s lead. Substitute Philippe Coutinho then scored a late penalty to seal Villarreal’s fate in a 3-1 defeat.
Chukwueze hopes to add to his tally on Tuesday when Unai Emery’s men return to action for a Copa del Rey clash with Victoria CF.
