Juventus bagged another Serie A win as they close in on their top-of-the-table opponents.
Juventus defeated Sampdoria 3-1 in their Serie A game on Saturday. The Bianconeri continued their 15-game unbeaten run in Serie A while Sampdoria slipped to 16th place on the table.
Morata steals the show!
Juventus quickly gained possession against Sampdoria, but they lacked enough composure to find an early breakthrough. However, it did not matter as the hosts did it for them in the 23rd minute.
Following a low cross from Juan Cuadrado from the right flank, Maya Yoshida scored an own goal to make it 1-0 for Juve.
The guests, however, did not stop their attacks and doubled their lead through Alvaro Morata only ten minutes later.
Sampdoria pushed hard to get back into the game, with the referee awarding them a penalty in the 74th minute.
However, Antonio Candreva failed to convert the spot-kick while Wojciech Szczęsny made a brilliant save.
Abdelhamid Sabiri eventually scored for the hosts ten minutes later, but it was already too late to change the result.
Sampdoria’s subsequent attacks only resulted in Morata completing his brace with a header in the dying minutes. It was the icing on the cake for Juve’s brilliant 3-1 win as they get as close as four points to league leaders AC Milan.
What’s next for Sampdoria and Juventus?
Sampdoria are struggling to distance themselves further away from the relegation zone as they sit 16th in Serie A. On the other hand, Juventus have reignited their hopes of winning the Scudetto by continuing their solid form of recent weeks.
The Bianconeri will face Villarreal in the second leg of their last-16 Champions League tie on Wednesday while Sampdoria meet Venezia in Serie A four days later.
