The 29-year-old continued his fine form at the Wanda Metropolitano, bagging a brace to help his side scrape past their Spanish hosts.

Mohamed Salah set a new Liverpool record by scoring against Atletico Madrid in Tuesday night’s thrilling Champions League fixture.

Salah needed just eight minutes to find the back of the net, and he became the first player in Liverpool’s history to score in nine consecutive games across all competitions in the process.

The forward handed his side the lead with a low shot which, with the help of a little deflection, landed into the bottom-left corner of the net.

The Egyptian’s goalscoring run started in August when he helped Jurgen Klopp’s men earn a point in the Premier League encounter with Chelsea, with Leeds United, AC Milan, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Porto, Manchester City, and Watford being his subsequent victims.

He went on to score the match-winner late in the second half. Naby Keita had doubled the Reds’ advantage and Antoine Griezman had hit a double to level matters for Atletico, but Salah converted a spot-kick in the final 15 minutes to ensure the visitors walk away with all three points in the bag.

Salah has been in fantastic form this season, having notched up 12 goals and four assists in just 11 games across all competitions so far.
