The Senegalese winger ended a six-season stay at Anfield last summer to join Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Cristiano Ronaldo congratulated Sadio Mane on his transfer to Bayern Munich last summer.

The 30-year-old Senegal international bumped into Ronaldo during the off-season, shortly after swapping Liverpool for Bayern Munich in a reported €32 million deal.

“I met Cristiano Ronaldo in Mallorca before this season after my move was completed,” Mane told Bild.

“He congratulated me and told me, ‘A great club! This is a great step for you!’”

‘Bayern is one of the biggest in the world’

The meeting occurred just months before Ronaldo’s own exit from the Premier League. At the time, the Portuguese ace’s future was already in heavy doubt. Various reports alleged he was open to leaving Manchester United for Bayern himself.

“That says everything about the Bundesliga and underlines what I’ve already said: I think you underestimate the Bundesliga here,” Mane said of Ronaldo’s alleged interest.

“The recent performances in the Champions League prove that.”

He added: “Bayern won the Champions League 6 times, the club is one of the biggest in the world.

“This is a well-known fact, the history of the club is attractive – that was the case for me when I decided to move to Munich. I don’t see any team bigger than Bayern or that is unbeatable.”

Mane has managed 11 goals and four assists in 24 appearances across all competitions for Bayern this season.

The winger returned from injury in the club’s 3-0 win over Bundesliga title rivals Union Berlin at the weekend. He hopes to play again in Saturday’s trip to VfB Stuttgart.
