Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim has remained tight-lipped about his future following a brief trip to London amidst speculation linking him to West Ham United.
Amorim, 39, arrived at Lisbon airport in the early hours of Tuesday alongside his agent Raul Costa. Despite smiling for the cameras, he declined to speak to reporters, fueling further speculation about his potential move to West Ham.
Some reports suggest that Amorim and his agent traveled to London to evaluate an official offer from West Ham, who are considering him as a candidate to replace David Moyes. Sources indicate that West Ham’s offer is more lucrative than Liverpool’s.
Amorim currently has a contract with Sporting until June 2026, with a release clause of €20 million ($21.3m) for foreign clubs. Despite being considered one of the top candidates to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, Amorim has vehemently denied holding talks with any club regarding his future.
While Sporting is aware of Premier League clubs’ interest in Amorim, they remain hopeful that he will continue to lead the league leaders. However, Amorim has previously stated that he cannot guarantee his presence at Sporting next season.
Sporting, who are seven points clear of nearest rivals Benfica in the Primeira Liga, are also through to the Portuguese Cup final. As they prepare to face FC Porto in the league on Sunday, the club is reportedly keeping an eye on the market for potential successors to Amorim.
Amorim’s future remains uncertain as speculation continues to swirl, but for now, Sporting is focused on maintaining their lead in the league and securing silverware in the Portuguese Cup.
