James Ward-Prowse altered the penalty spot before Iceland’s Birkir Bjarnason scuffed his shot from 12 yards out.

England managed to take home three points against Iceland, a fixture that should have ended in share of the spoils.

Raheem Sterling scored from the spot in added time. Iceland got an opportunity of their own by Birkir Bjarnason scuffed his shot. The Brescia midfielder might have been on target but the penalty spot was compromised by James Ward-Prowse.

Roy Keane questioned the Southampton captain’s antics and believe his actions brought the game in disrepute.

“It’s cheating Wrighty [Ian Wright], it’s cheating. That’s cheating and I don’t like to see it. Talk about the spirit of the game,” talkSport quoted Kean’s remarks on ITV..

Ian Wright did not mind the Southampton player’s antics, stating that the Three Lions needs players like him. Wright also did not outrightly called Ward-Prowse’s actions cheating and said he is not complaining if it helps England.

“I don’t mind that from an England player, a little bit of housery.

“What I like about Ward-Prowse is that he’s got that about him, he’s got that little devilment about him.

“Maybe [it is cheating] but to see an England player do it… if that happens in a competition and we get something from it I’m not going to complain.

“It happens. Cheating or not, it’s happened and that gets us to the next round maybe.”

After their scrappy win over Iceland, England take on the challenge of Denmark at the Parken Stadium.
