Rooney has gone back and forth with his former Man United teammate in recent days.
Earlier this week, former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney appeared to criticize the Red Devils’ decision to bring back Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford. He claimed his former teammate is ‘not the player he was in his twenties’, urging the club to sign younger stars.
Rooney’s remarks triggered a response from the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who suggested that Rooney is jealous of him by posting a controversial comment on Instagram.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of Derby County’s next Championship game, the ex-England international reacted to Ronaldo’s claim.
He said: “I saw that this morning.
“I’d say there’s probably not a footballer on the planet who isn’t jealous of Cristiano.
“The career he’s had, the trophies he’s won, the money he’s earned… his six pack! Every player bar Lionel Messi is jealous of Cristiano.”
Ronaldo is Man United’s top scorer this season. However, his performances have not led the Red Devils to any trophies.
Ralf Rangnick’s side are now desperate to reclaim their spot among the Premier League’s top four. Ronaldo will most likely return to United’s starting lineup this week after missing out on his side’s 1-1 draw against Leicester City.
