The Red Devils icon feels the Lillywhites should have waited a little longer before deciding to part ways with their head coach.

Wayne Rooney has criticized Tottenham for the “strange timing” of Jose Mourinho’s dismissal – just as they prepare to play in the Football League Cup final.

Mourinho’s Tottenham had a promising start to the season and even emerged as Premier League title contenders, but the encouraging signs did not last too long.

The campaign is heading towards its conclusion and Spurs find themselves down low at seventh in the league standings, with 50 points collected from 32 games.

The London side have a decisive fixture against Manchester City up next, and Rooney thinks it’s “crazy” on the club’s part to not hold onto their decision until after that game.

“I think its crazy doing it before a cup final. It’s strange timing anyway. Surely they could have waited until after the cup final if that’s the direction they wanted to go in.” Rooney said about Mourinho’s sacking, as per Daily Mail.

“Mourinho is a manager who loves winning trophies, that’s quite clear to see. He’s won a lot of trophies throughout his career.

“If there was one manager to set up a team to play against Man City in a cup final it’s Jose Mourinho. Tottenham haven’t had the best of seasons so from that point of view so it’s crazy and a massive risk.

“I’m sure Daniel Levy could have waited until the day after the game, that would have made more sense if they wanted to get rid of Mourinho.”
