Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a challenge to the two players he expects to succeed him and opened up on the legacy he hopes to leave behind.

Cristiano Ronaldo likes what he sees from the new generation of football stars and advised them on how to become ‘really great players’ like himself.

The Portuguese star is the highest goalscorer in history and is arguably one of the best players ever with countless records that may never be broken.

But while the 36-year-old continues to impress with his brilliance, there will come a day he has to retire.

The question is who will succeed CR7 as the world’s best player?

The two most likely stars for the job are Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. Both players have impressed big time and are clearly set for bright futures.

But to become ‘really great’ like Ronaldo, they must keep doing great ‘season after season’.

Speaking at his unveiling as LiveScore’s Official Global Brand Ambassador, Ronaldo said: “It is hard to choose just one player to say this one will be the best.

“But I think it is exciting to see this new generation of young players, like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, who are coming through.

“Some players can have one or two great seasons, the really great players are the ones that keep doing it season after season, and that is not so easy to do. It takes a lot of hard work, and a lot of commitment.”

The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend also spoke on the legacy he hopes to leave behind.

“I hope that I will be remembered as one of the great players,” said Ronaldo.

“Someone that worked hard, that always did his best to help his team and will be part of the history of the game.”
