The former Manchester United captain has offered his verdict on the Ronaldo-Messi debate and named his GOAT.

Roy Keane says he would pick Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi ‘every day of the week’ but rates Diego Maradona as his GOAT.

Despite their status as two of the finest players to grace the beautiful game secured, Ronaldo and Messi want more. They want to be the best, but only one of them can do that. The question is, who deserves it more?

Legends, managers, pundits, and current stars have all offered mixed opinions on who should be the greatest of all time, aka the GOAT.

But as far as Keane is concerned, the answer is simple: Ronaldo is the best, end of story.

As part of 50 quick-fire questions during an interview for Gary Neville’s The Overlap YouTube channel, Keane said on the GOAT debate: “Ronaldo. Every day of the week.”

Why Keane thinks CR7 is the best

Speaking at the 2018 World Cup, Keane claimed Ronaldo had transcended to ‘a new level’ and left Messi for dust. He also hailed his former Red Devils teammate as a ‘genius’.

“I think there has been a great debate about him [Ronaldo] and Messi, but over the last six months, I think he’s on a new level — Ronaldo’s out there on his own,” said Keane at the time.

“It’s not natural ability, as brilliant as he is, it’s sheer hard work. He’s got a lot of courage, he’s brave and the guy is a genius.

“I think his form over the last few months I’d have him above of Messi.”

Maradona gets the nod as Keane’s GOAT

Unfortunately for Ronaldo and Messi, Keane doesn’t rate either of them as the greatest player in history.

The 50-year-old instead rates Argentina legend Diego Maradona, who sadly passed away last November aged 60, as his GOAT.

He told Neville: “Diego Maradona. I thought he was brilliant.”
