Twice did Roma take the lead and twice did Cristiano Ronaldo find the back of the net to deny his opponents all three points.

It was a thrilling contest at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night as the two contesting teams remained inseparable after the full-time whistle despite four goals were scored in the match.

Roma were the first to draw blood. A handball from Adrien Rabiot inside the box led to a penalty awarded to them, which Jordan Veretout converted.

A similar situation played out at the other end of the pitch, with Lorenzo Pellegrini being the culprit. Cristiano Ronaldo positioned himself to take the spot-kick and – no prizes for guessing what happened next – he sent the goalkeeper wrong way to level the scoreline.

Just as the first half was approaching its end, Veretout struck again. It came against the run of play as the hosts counter-attacked just after being attacked themselves.

Edin Dzeko had a golden opportunity to double his side’s lead four minutes prior to the hour-mark. The Bosnian striker made a great run taking on a couple of Juventus defenders, only to hit the outside of the post.

Ronaldo also squandered a goalscoring chance as he, on receiving a great pass from his new striker partner Alvaro Morata, caught the ball on the volley and shot straight at Antonio Mirante.

The match looked to be slipping away from Juve’s hands, especially after Rabiot’s dismissal, but Ronaldo made sure that his side don’t walk away empty-handed.

It was one of the CR7’s trademark goals as he leaped in the air, rising above everyone, to send an unstoppable header past the opposition goalkeeper to salvage a point for Juventus.
