Bayer Leverkusen’s Jamaican star Leon Bailey gave his take on the old Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi debate.
In 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid heated up a long-term debate: who’s better, Ronaldo or Messi? 11 years later, the argument is still going strong and so are the two footballing sensations. Despite being well over 30, Cris and Leo have stayed at the top of their game and had fans and footballers alike raging about the pair.
The hottest new take on the Ronaldo vs Messi debate comes from Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey. The 23-year-old has been impressive for the Bundesliga side this season, scoring 11 goals and setting up an additional nine in 29 appearances.
Talking to ESPN, Leon Bailey gave his opinion on an argument that divides football fans all around the world. After all, who’s better: Ronaldo or Messi?
“I think [Lionel] Messi has been at one club for too long. The big difference between Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi is Ronaldo has done great things in different teams and that’s what makes him great. Obviously, they are two great players but Ronaldo will always have that upper hand.”
Although Bailey believes Messi’s talent surpasses Ronaldo’s, he’ll choose Portugal’s captain every single time.
“I believe Messi is more talented than Ronaldo, but when it comes to more success, I would give that to Ronaldo 100 times.”
Leon Bailey’s opinion leaves us with an interesting thought that relates to Messi’s unknown future. Does the Argentinian star have to leave Barcelona in order to assert himself as the best football player in the world?
