Jay Rodriguez has named Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi as the GOAT and explained what makes the Juve star stand out.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have hotly contested against each other for the prestigious mantle of being the greatest player of all-time, aka ‘The GOAT’.

The pair’s battle for supremacy has lasted over a decade, with each attempting to outdo the other every weekend. It’s been one hell of a ride for us all. Yet, the saga isn’t over yet as both men refuse to throw in the towel in their thirties.

But who is the better player? We’ve heard many contrasting opinions from fans, players, coaches, and analysts alike. They’ve all given us some food for thought, but haven’t given us a definite answer.

The latest one to enter the fray is Jay Rodriguez, who plays as a forward for Premier League side Burnley.

The 31-year-old, who has also played for the likes of Southampton and West Brom, may have never played against or with either player, but he’s adamant that Ronaldo is the true GOAT all the same.

When asked to name the GOAT, Rodriguez told SPORTbible: “Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Obviously, Lionel Messi is unbelievable, but I love the fact Ronaldo has moved to different leagues and dominated. He’s definitely the best for me.”

Life after Ronaldo and Messi, though, will be a scary prospect for anyone. But several promising young talents have emerged recently, each determined to take over the mantle as the world’s best.

Leading the chase is Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, but who will be next top superstar out of the pair?

“Mbappe,” answered Rodriguez. “He’s frightening.”

But while we can appreciate Rodriguez’s brutal honesty, the Englishman choosing Ronaldo Nazario over Cristiano as his favorite player was a little confusing…

“I watched him growing up and even when you watch his clips now you can see he’s one of the best players to have ever played the game,” Jay said on Ronaldo Nazario.

“The stuff he could do was amazing.”
