Cristiano Ronaldo walked off the pitch frustrated as he was substituted by Ralf Rangnick at Wednesday’s win over Brentford.

Cristiano Ronaldo lost his temper after he was substituted by Ralf Rangnick on Wednesday as Manchester United beat Brentford in the Premier League.

Goals from Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood, and Marcus Rashford proved fruitful as the Red Devils ended a victory drought. However, the Portuguese all-time great was certainly not happy about his manager’s decision to take him off the field.

What happened?

If you remember, Cristiano was unavailable for action since January 3 due to a hip issue. And following his return to the teamsheet after two games, he failed to put the ball in the back of the net.

As soon as Greenwood scored the second goal of the game after 70 minutes, Rangnick decided to sideline Ronaldo. He was replaced by Harry Maguire to bolster the defensive unit for the rest of the game.

But, Rangnick’s hasty call was not appreciated by the 36-year-old striker. He fumed off the pitch uttering “Why me? Why me… Why would you take me off?” while throwing his jacket on the floor.

Ronaldo continued his agony as he sat on the bench, however, the German boss approached the superstar with his wise words.

What did Rangnick say?

While speaking to BT Sport regarding Ronaldo’s reaction the United boss said: “That is normal. A striker wants to score. But he has come back from a little injury and it was important to remember we have got another game coming up.”

Later, he told the reporters: “The only reaction I noticed is he was asking me ‘why me?’. And I said I had to take a decision in the interest of the team.”

“I didn’t expect him to hug me after being subbed, I know how goal-scoring players tick.”

“I have no issue whatsoever with Cristiano. He came back from an injury and didn’t train for one and half weeks. Why should I not make use of the players on the bench?”
