At 38, the Al Nassr star is still a crucial part of Portugal’s national team.

Dimitar Berbatov believes Cristiano Ronaldo is fit enough to continue his career after turning 40.

Ronaldo scored twice for Portugal when they defeated Slovakia 3-2 and qualified for Euro 2024 on Friday. CR7 has also shown no signs of slowing down in his performances for Al Nassr, registering ten goals and five assists in eight Saudi Pro League matches this season.

“Ronaldo will stop when he wants to stop,” Berbatov told Betfair“When you look after yourself the way he has, have the team around you that he does, the chances of playing football for longer than expected gets bigger. In Cristiano’s case, I think he has the chance to play for another two or three years.”

Ronaldo will most certainly play for Portugal when they travel to Germany for the European Championship next year. Roberto Martinez’s side, however, have a host of attacking talents that could limit Ronaldo’s playing time at the national team.

Berbatov added: “He’s helped Portugal qualify for Euro 2024, and one day, his last tournament will come, of course, but let’s not think about that yet. Let’s just leave him be and I’m sure he’ll surprise us with another decision soon enough.”
