CR7 scored 18 Premier League goals during a season of turmoil at Old Trafford and has been backed to do even better in 2022/23.

Cristiano Ronaldo can beat Erling Haaland to the Premier League Golden Boot in 2022/23, according to ex-Manchester United teammate Mikael Silvestre.

Silvestre has suggested a ‘dysfunctional’ United team left Ronaldo handicapped in last season’s Golden Boot race. The Portuguese ace still scored a decent 18 goals though, just five goals behind joint-winners Mohamed Salah and Heung-Min Son.

But Silvestre reckons if United can get their act together under new manager Erik ten Hag, Ronaldo can beat Manchester City’s superstar summer signing Erling Haaland to finish as the league’s top-scorer in the upcoming campaign.

“Haaland to win the Golden Boot? I would rather see Cristiano win it,” said the Frenchman as quoted by the Express.

“He was not far off last season with a dysfunctional team so if United works this season, why not? Teach the young pup there is life in the old dog!

“With Harry Kane and Mo Salah we have the best strikers in the Premier League, so whoever wins it will deserve it.”

Man City to win the Premier League

But while Ronaldo gets a vote of confidence from Silvestre, the former Red Devils defender fears Manchester City will be title winners once again.

“I hope not Manchester City, but they have added Haaland to that squad and the disappointment of not going forward with the Champions League will still be there, so they will still be hungry for more,” he said.

“The league is quite special, because it is a long, long, long season, and I think they will be there. Second is Liverpool. Outside of them, it is just if Chelsea can get into the race – or United or even Arsenal and Tottenham, because they finished strong.”
