As the January transfer window opens up, Jose Mourinho and Roma are looking to hire the services of an Arsenal midfielder.

Roma have placed a bid to sign Arsenal star Ainsley Maitland-Niles as Jose Mourinho looks for a possible permanent move.

According to The Athletic, the Serie A side is keen on bringing the central midfielder on a permanent basis in the January transfer window. However, the club does not have the financial strength to complete such a move this month.

Therefore, Roma are planning to snap him on an initial loan offer as they attempt to raise funds for his permanent deal. In fact, they wish to sell Pau Lopez, Justin Kluivert, and Cengiz Under before the summer.

Mourinho and his side are waiting for a response from Arsenal, but wish to finish the paperwork as soon as possible.

Maitland-Niles is running through the last six months of his agreement with the Gunners. And he has not been able to make it to Mikel Arteta’s list, with just two Premier League games played so far.

In addition, the 24-year-old is looking for a way out of Emirates Stadium with Everton showing interest. But Arsenal’s denial of the move left Maitland-Niles in frustration.

Moreover, Arteta’s failed promise to provide him with sufficient opportunities have made him eager to leave. Along with Roma, Newcastle United are reportedly willing to offer a chance for the youngster this month.
