The Chelsea striker could secure another loan move to Serie A.
Jose Mourinho has left the door open for Romelu Lukaku’s possible move to Roma amid the striker’s search for a new club.
Lukaku has been training with Chelsea’s U21 squad since the start of the new season. The striker hopes to secure a move away from the London side, with Roma emerging as his new suitor.
The Giallorossi are on the verge of signing another striker, Sardar Azmoun, but Mourinho doesn’t rule out a move for the former Inter star.
“When the director proposed Azmoun to me, he told me that another one is coming,” the Portuguese manager said on Friday.
“If the other is a quality striker… [Andrea] Belotti, Azmoun and another, we have good options in attack. I’m quietly waiting. Now I’m thinking about tomorrow, we’ve worked on this, and we hope.”
According to reports from the Italian media, Chelsea are open to sending Lukaku on another short-term loan deal.
The Blues were negotiating with Inter to sell the striker on a permanent contract. But Lukaku’s secret negotiations with Juventus convinced the Nerazzurri to call off the move. Then came an opportunity for Lukaku to join Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, which was rejected by the Belgian star.
Juventus have maintained their interest in signing Lukaku, with sources claiming they are keen to sell Dusan Vlahovic to Chelsea as part of a potential deal. However, the negotiations have been more difficult than expected, leaving Lukaku stranded at Stamford Bridge.
