Serie A club Roma suffered from a 3-0 loss for playing an unregistered player vs Hellas Verona in the opening game on Saturday las week.
Round of error for Roma!
Serie A declared on Tuesday that Roma fielded a player over the age of 22. This player did not register on the 25-man squad roster.
Guinea international Amadou Diawara turned 23 in July this year. In spite of that, the club registered him in the under-22 section of the squad’s list by mistake. Also, the under-22 players do not count with a total of 25. Hence, there is a possibility of registering an extra player without a problem.
Although the game ended 0-0 for Roma, they will remain with no points in the table.
“Roma have employed a player not registered in the 25-man squad communicated by certified email on September 14, 2020, despite having become over 22,” a Lega Serie A statement read.
“[Serie A] resolves to sanction Roma with the sporting punishment of the loss of the game with a 0-3 score.”
On the other hand, the Verona coach received a fine of €5,000 as he guided his team from the stands despite his touchline ban.
Roma is on the verge of appealing the decision, according to Sky Sports Italia.
The club admitted Diawara‘s mistake which took place. Though the club argues that the officials should have mentioned their error at the time of submission. The club awaits to know whether or not a notification was sent on time.
The season has started off with unfortunate events for Roma, and the club looks forward to stabilise their squad.
Edin Dzeko’s transfer is doubtful as Roma refuses to sign Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik.
Moreover, Dzeko’s transfer gets more difficult. This is because Juve is expecting to sign Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid.
The club faced calamity as winger Cengiz Under left for Leicester City on a loan. But, the club managed to sign performing defender Marash Kumbulla from Hellas Verona.
Roma will play against the Serie A champions this weekend. This will be a struggle, as Andrea Pirlo aims for the title with Juve.
